Driver Missing In Floodwaters

POSTED: Tuesday, April 28, 2009
UPDATED: 6:42 pm CDT April 28, 2009

One Houston-area driver is missing after Tuesday's severe flooding, officials told KPRC Local 2.

Houston police said the motorist accidentally turned into a drainage ditch along the Katy Freeway near Gessner Road at about 4:30 a.m. believing it was an entrance to a parking lot.

Crews had difficulty finding the driver because the car is submerged. Officials said it could be in the ditch or it may have been pulled under the freeway.

A witness told police that he tried to hold on to the car as it tethered on the edge of the drainage ditch, but he had to let go.

The dive team will resume the search Wednesday at 9 a.m. because the water levels are too high.

Officials at first believed the driver was swept into the floodwaters.

The Houston Police Department's missing person's division said anyone who knows the missing driver's identity is asked to call 713-731-5223.
