HOUSTON -- An abandoned baby girl found in a dryer more than two weeks ago is one step closer to having a new home, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.
A judge ordered the newborn immediately moved into a home with her adoptive parents.
The new parents were pre-selected and screened by Child Protective Services.
Since a resident found the baby behind his southwest Houston apartment complex, she has been living temporarily with foster parents.
Representatives with Child Protective Services said they received several calls from those interested in adopting the newborn nicknamed "Baby Mia."
CPS chose a couple on the waiting list because of the short time frame in which they wanted to move the baby girl into a new home.
Attorneys chosen for Mia could not reveal details about the couple, but said the couple is excited about having a new baby.
"They are wonderful people," said Elizabeth Whyburn, attorney ad litem. "They are very excited about having a baby and they don't have any children in their home."
The final hearing for Baby Mia will be held May 21. That is when her biological parent's rights could be officially terminated.
