HOUSTON -- A trip to a northwest Harris County gym ended with a man becoming a crime victim, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.
Mike Jaster decided his wallet would be safer hidden in his pickup truck than in a locker at his neighborhood gym, Bally Total Fitness, located at 17750 Katy Freeway at Barker Cypress Road.
"I had everything in there and I felt like it was real secure," he said.
But a thief broke into the truck and found the wallet in the console.
"They probably used a screwdriver or some type of tool. They just punched it in," Jaster said. "They got my social security card and driver's license and everything that was in my wallet."
The theft included his credit cards, which the crook did not waste any time using.
A person was caught by security cameras using one of Jaster's cards at a convenience store and other businesses the same day.
"They were after quick cash and credit cards, and within two hours, they had already ran up almost $300 in gas and at Academy," Jaster said.
The spending spree did not last long. Jaster called his credit card companies as soon as he noticed them missing.
But police still want to have a talk with the man caught in the security camera footage. They said they believe he is responsible for other, similar thefts.
But, as far as Police know, he is still on the streets.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
