HOUSTON -

Authorities have charged an 18-year-old mother for putting her child in danger after she was pulled her over for taking a wallet.

Houston police said Dominique Baylor was at a strip mall in the 17500 Block of Imperial Valley with her 2-year-old daughter and a friend, LaPorsha Smith, on Tuesday. A witness saw one of the girls pick up a wallet and get in a car.

The witness called the police and followed them.

Baylor, who was driving the car, backed into the witness’s car when she realized she was being followed, according to authorities.

When police stopped Baylor, officers saw that her daughter was not strapped into a car seat. She was arrested.

Smith, who had an outstanding warrant in Humble, was also arrested for not identifying herself to police.

Officials said Baylor's daughter was not harmed, and is in the custody of her grandparents.
