Mom Wakes From Coma 2 Months After Accident

Husband Says He Prayed For Miracle

A mother of three, who suffered a serious brain injury in an accident in January, woke up from a coma on Sunday.

Donald Huddy said he spent seven weeks praying for a miracle after his 35-year-old wife Christy Huddy suffered massive injuries in a car accident.

He said he also been spending quality time with his children and answering their questions about what happened.

Christy had only her children in mind when she was injured. She was taking her youngest son and daughter to a tutor's house in Enchanted Lake Jan. 5. "My son jumped out of the car and when he did, he fell and hit his head," Donald said.

Christy got out of the SUV to help him when it started rolling away with 5-year-old daughter Dylan still inside. She tried to stop the SUV.

"The car ran her over and she got pinned under the car," Huddy said.

Christy suffered four broken ribs, internal injuries and was without oxygen for 18 minutes. She had been in a coma ever since. But Sunday night she spoke.

"She said, 'Don.' She said my name," Huddy said. "I was overwhelmed you know, overwhelmed. Just thank God."

Donald said some doctors were stunned.

"Nurses came in crying, saying they can't believe this," Donald said.

Christy said she doesn't remember what happened, but she's remembering most everything else.

"It seems to me that she has most of her memory. It's just maybe her mobility, her speech, walking we need to work on," Donald said.

Donald said he held out hope even when doctors had only grim news.

"She's going to have major brain damage and so much percent, saying that she might be a vegetable," Donald said.

But he and his family prayed every day, along with a huge network of friends who followed a daily blog.

"I just believed in my faith that everything's going to be all right. Thank you, Lord, my wife is back," Donald said.

The Huddys' three children will visit their mother at the Queen's Medical Center Tuesday.

Christy will require months of rehabilitation that will cost thousands of dollars. A fundraiser is set for Saturday at a local club, where organizers are planning lots of food and music.
