Coast Guard officials seized hundreds of pounds of fish from a suspected illegal fishing vessel off the Texas coast, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.

Officials said the Coast Guard cutter Zephyr intercepted the fishing vessel crewed by Mexican nationals approximately 50 miles east of the Texas coast on Wednesday.

It contained 365 pounds of fish -- an estimated 250 pounds of red snapper, 75 pounds of shark and 40 pounds of grouper.

The fishing vessel and its occupants were escorted to the Coast Guard Station in South Padre Island.

The crew was transferred to U.S. Customs and Border Protection for repatriation.

The catch was spoiled and later abandoned offshore.
