Report: Clemens' DNA Linked To Blood In Syringes

POSTED: Tuesday, February 3, 2009
UPDATED: 10:00 am CST February 4, 2009

Roger Clemens' DNA has been linked to blood in syringes his former personal trainer says he used on the pitcher, according to published reports.

The Washington Post cites two unidentified sources saying the DNA results are only preliminary. It also says Clemens has voluntarily given a DNA sample to federal authorities.

It's still unclear if those syringes ever contained steroids or human growth hormone. A lawyer for Clemens calls it fabricated evidence.

"I just know that at the end of the day, it won't matter," said Rusty Hardin, Clemens' attorney. "I have always assumed, since McNamee came up with this junk, that he would be turning something over to the government if he hadn't figured out a way to mix some of Roger's DNA with it. So, I've always assumed that sooner or later, test results would show Roger's DNA because McNamee is the one who concocted all of this stuff."

Brian McNamee has told federal agents and a House committee he injected Clemens with steroids and HGH more than a dozen times from 1998-2001.

The test results could prove important to an investigation into whether Clemens lied under oath to Congress when he denied using steroids or HGH.

Prosecutors have asked a federal grand jury in Washington to decide whether to indict the seven-time Cy Young Award winner.
