HOUSTON -- Houston's city controller wants voters to give her a promotion, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Annise Parker announced Monday that she is running for mayor.
"We need a mayor who can manage our city through tough economic times and still keep Houston moving ahead," Parker said. "I have a plan to create jobs, secure Houston's future as the headquarters for new energy development and maintain fiscal responsibility."
Parker said she would work to bring more research dollars to local universities and create partnerships to make Houston a leader in alternative energy and new energy development.
Parker is currently in her third term as city controller and served three terms on Houston City Council. She also had a 20-year career in the oil and gas industry.
Current Houston Mayor Bill White has already announced his candidacy for U.S. Senate.
