Moody Gardens Helps Stranded Dolphin

POSTED: Friday, January 9, 2009
UPDATED: 12:29 pm CST January 9, 2009

A stranded dolphin is getting help at Moody Gardens, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.

Toby, a wounded bottlenose dolphin, was found on the Padre Island National Seashore in Corpus Christi, Texas, in late November.

The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network would normally help Toby at its own facility, but it was damaged by Hurricane Ike. Moody Gardens opened up its quarantine facility to the TMMSN to help nurse Toby.

Toby is believed to be 3 or 4 years old. He appears to have suffered from dehydration, a shark bite, rake marks and other injuries.

Officials said Toby has been eating well and staying active. He will stay at Moody Gardens until he is ready to go back to the wild.
