Relatives fly into Houston from around the world for the holidays. If you're looking for unique places to show your out-of-town guests, News2Houston has some ideas.

Offbeat Houston

For instance, imagine seeing George Foreman's boxing gloves, Denton Cooley's surgical mask and Mama Ninfa's first menu -- all in a Houston pharmacy.

Cathy Stucker wrote an entire guide of offbeat things to do and see in Houston.

"Places that when you tell people, they say, 'Really, where's that?' Those are the kind of places I wanted to include in Offbeat Houston," Stucker said.

Several places in Offbeat Houston are very well known, like Folk Art Homes, including the Flower Man's house.

If you're looking for an offbeat present, the book suggests a visit to Kipperman's Pawn Shop, 6120 E. Bellfort, in southeast Houston.

It started as an eye-catching store, and turned into an offbeat tourist stop that sells all kinds of treasures, from bikes to shotguns. Its specialty is truly unique -- $49 shotgun weddings.

Ted Kipperman is used to spontaneous nuptials at his pawnshop wedding chapel.

"When you're in the mood to do that special thing, think of Ted Kipperman for that diamond ring," Kipperman said.
