Firefighters Find Marijuana Plants In Warehouse

POSTED: Tuesday, January 6, 2009
UPDATED: 9:10 am CST January 6, 2009

A fire department found more than just flames during a fire at a warehouse on Monday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said the Aldine Fire Department put out an electrical fire at a warehouse in the 15300 block of Chaplin Street at about 2 p.m.

Firefighters told a man with keys to the property that they needed to get into a mechanical bay to make sure there was no fire inside. The man was reluctant to open the doors, officials said.

Crews went inside and found 200 marijuana plants being grown in a greenhouse setup, officials said. Deputies said the setup included special grow lighting on the ceiling, special insulation, heating and an internal irrigation system.

Detectives estimated the street value of the drugs to be $6,000 to $10,000.
