POSTED: Tuesday, December 30, 2008
HOUSTON -- A Good Samaritan who stopped to help a driver who wrecked her car was fatally hit by another vehicle, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Harris County Precinct 5 deputy constables said someone cut off a female driver in the eastbound lanes of the Katy Freeway near Gessner Drive at about 6:20 a.m. Tuesday.
She swerved, went through a barrier and ended up facing westbound in the eastbound managed lanes, which are reserved for high-occupancy vehicles.
The woman's car was dark to oncoming vehicles because its headlights had been damaged, officials said.
Two men who witnessed the wreck stopped to help the woman.
The driver of an oncoming SUV did not see the wreck. The two men jumped to get out of the SUV's way, but one of the men was hit. He was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he died. His name was not released.
Police said the driver of the SUV was not cited.
