Family Asks For Help Solving 2005 Killing

POSTED: Tuesday, December 9, 2008

The family of a man found dead more than three years ago is once again celebrating this holiday season without their loved one, and without the peace of mind that his killer is behind bars, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.

Houston police said Jerone Daniel Moore, 22, was found in the middle of the 12700 block of Glen Hollow Drive at about 10:45 p.m. on Sept. 8, 2005.

Police said that he was almost home when for some reason he stopped to talk to someone and then was shot to death.

"The driver's door was open and the headlights were on and the engine was still running," Sgt. David Ferguson said. "He had two or three gunshots to his upper torso.

Fondly known as "Jellybean" because of his round face and bright smile, his family is without their only son. They said that with the public's help, police may finally solve the case.

"The past three years, our family has been broken beyond repair," said Kimberly Harris McConico, Moore's aunt. "Jellybean not being here is just indescribable. He worked hard and he was a good kid. We just can't understand why."

One person was taken into custody in connection with Moore's death, but he was held on unrelated charges. He later was released.

A $5,000 reward was offered for information leading to Moore's killer. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
