Homeowner Finds Roof In Unexpected Place

By Phil Archer

Most people expect their roof will stay on top of their home on a normal day, but one woman got the shock of her life when she found her roof somewhere else, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.

"Somebody basically stole my roof," Linda Issac said.

Issac said she is still a bit in shock after coming home Monday to find the roof stripped off her house. Someone ripped off every shingle and left them all piled up in the back yard.

"My roof had nothing on it," Issac said. "It was just bare."

Issac began investigating on her own and discovered that a neighbor on the next street over had the roof on her house replaced the same day. It just so happens the neighbor's street number is the same as Issac’s.

"I've actually received mail for her before and just gone over there and dropped it in her mailbox," Issac said. "That’s how I actually knew that there was the street over with the same street number as mine."

The neighbor's address 16222 Olive Glen, while Issac's address is 16222 Newfield. Issac said her home may have been a victim of mistaken identity.

"(I think the contractors) made a mistake and took my roof off, and when they realized it, just took out of there and left me with no roof," Issac said.

The crew foreman who worked on the neighbor's house said his men did not strip Issac's roof. He said he is positive the crew did not go to the wrong house because he used a global positioning system to locate the right house.

The police investigated, but can't file charges against anyone without witnesses.

Issac said she figures she's out at least $1,900 with Christmas just around the corner.
