Committee Discusses Hurricane Ike Response

POSTED: Wednesday, December 3, 2008
UPDATED: 4:44 pm CST December 3, 2008

Nearly three months after Hurricane Ike, a House select committee met Wednesday to talk about the Houston-area's response to the storm, KPRC Local 2 reported.

The goal of the meeting was to come up with recommendations on how the state, counties and cities could better prepare for the next emergency.

The committee wants to give the Federal Emergency Management Agency and local emergency response teams constructive criticism to prepare for the next hurricane.

Evacuation, communication, housing, medical response and shelters were also on the meeting's agenda.

The public will have an opportunity to give their input. Comments from residents will be heard at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center, 400 W. Walker St., beginning at 6:30 p.m. Those wishing to speak must sign up before they will be heard.
