HOUSTON -- Two truck drivers may face drunken driving charges after one of them hit a Harris County sheriff's deputy sitting in a parked patrol unit early Wednesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
The deputy was protecting construction workers from drivers as the workers restriped two lanes of the feeder road along the Northwest Freeway near 43rd Street at about 2:30 a.m.
"The officer, sitting in his marked unit, (was) hit by a tow truck by the Reyes Towing Company," said Lt. John Zitzman of the Houston Police Department. "Caused minor injury to the deputy."
The deputy was not seriously injured. He was a walking around and talking with investigators shortly after the crash.
The two drivers from the Reyes towing company were following each other and coming from a call. The driver who hit the deputy said they were headed back to the shop because of faulty brakes on his vehicle.
Investigators said both drivers were taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. If they are charged, their city and county towing licenses could be pulled.
