SUGAR LAND, Texas -- A crime alert was issued in Sugar Land after a man was beaten and robbed outside his home, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.
Jeff Mikolajek had just come from choir practice to his home in the 400 block of Mill Place Court in the Sugar Mill neighborhood Tuesday night when two robbers armed with brass knuckles walked up to him.
"The guys were here and they swung and hit me, and I fell down here in the gutter, and they kicked me a few times in the head and then took off," he said.
Mikolajek said the robbers took his wallet and his keys, and left him in a pool of blood.
"There must be a lot of raw emotion going through you right now after being violated in front of your own home like that," KPRC Local 2 reporter Carl Willis said.
"It's very concerning. You try to think of being safe in your neighborhood and being protective of other people in your neighborhood and the whole thing turned 180 degrees," Mikolajek said.
Many of his neighbors said they can't remember anything like this happening here. They said the crime has certainly raised their defenses.
"I think the take-away message is that we all need to be vigilant. We live in a very nice neighborhood, safe, but no matter where you live, you need to be watching, because you can't tell what the criminal mind is going to think," neighbor Diane Weber said.
Sugar Land police said there has not been an outbreak of similar robberies.
But as long as he can keep this from happening to his neighbors, Mikolajek said his senseless attack may serve some good.
"That's why we called you. People have got to know. Education is the best thing to keep people safe," he said.
No arrests have been made in the case.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sugar Land Police Department at 281-275-2500.
