Ex-MUD Officials Sentenced For Theft

HOUSTON -- Two former municipal utility district officials have been sentenced to four years in prison for theft, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.
Steve Strange and Robert Carlisle stole more than $100,000 from Northwest Harris County Municipal Utility District 16.
Court documents showed the two now former board directors used their district credit card and checks to purchase residential furnishings, building materials and other goods and services for five years beginning in 2000.
The purchases were not approved by the board and Strange and Carlisle personally benefited from them, Harris County District Attorney Kenneth Magidson said.
Strange, 44, and Carlisle, 54, pleaded guilty in August to charges of theft by a public servant. They had asked for probation.
"The evidence supported the judge's sentence," prosecutor Carvana Cloud said. "The court sent a clear message that the citizens of Harris County will not tolerate theft and deception at their expense."
Harris County MUD 16 serves about 1,000 homes in the area of state Highway 6 and F.M. 529.
