HOUSTON -- There was a show inside Toyota Center, but there was also a show outside on the green carpet as star after star arrived Thursday for the biggest night of the year for Latin music, KPRC Local 2 reported.
In some cases, you might not know their names or recognize their faces. But there were some who could not hide, including Kenny G. and John Legend. Legend just finished his first recording in Spanish. He performed with superstar Juanes, who won the Latin Grammy for best male pop vocal album.
"It's just a large population," Legend said. "Even here in America, it's a growing population and so, you know, it's a growing market ... a growing type of music. Even though there's a lot of different types of music within Spanish-speaking music, it's great that it's all being celebrated tonight."
Also on the green carpet was the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences' Person of the Year, Gloria Estefan. Her family talked about the importance of the night.
"The greatest and most spectacular crowd that we've ever seen," model and host Lily Estefan said. "We've done so many events all around the United States, but, you know, they're great. You can tell that they really appreciate that the Latin Grammys are in Houston. They make you feel great!"
Houston Mayor Bill White said more people were expected to watch the Grammy show outside the United States than inside the country.
