HOUSTON -- Houston police need help finding a man who stabbed a woman 15 times and left her for dead, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Investigators said the man broke into her apartment on West Little York Road near Vogel Road on Tuesday.

The man got into a neighboring apartment and cut a hole in a wall to get into the woman's apartment, police said.

The woman grabbed a gun and shot at the man, detectives said. He then stabbed her and ran away, officials said.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Her condition was not released.

Residents said there have recently been four other similar break-ins.
