HOUSTON -- A 17-year-old girl was hospitalized after a vehicle slammed into her bedroom early Friday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Guadalupe Espinoza was asleep in her bed when an SUV hit her home in the Carnelian Drive near High Star Drive at about 2:30 a.m.
Espinoza's mattress and bedding were still stuck under the SUV when a tow truck pulled it out of the home.
Espinoza was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in serious condition. She said she originally could not feel her legs, but has since regained feeling. Doctors said she may need hip surgery.
A woman said the driver hit her car and took off moments before crashing into the home.
"He stopped and I was talking to him. He was too drunk," Taiana Domingos said. I was like, wait a minute 'cause we already called the cops. He was like, 'I'm not going to wait for nobody.' And he got in the car until he hit the house."
Witnesses said the driver tried to get away after hitting the home, but someone chased him down and held him for police.
Arturo Montes-Benevides, 39, was arrested and charged with assault on a public servant. Police said other charges were pending blood-alcohol level test results.
The family put posts in their front yard about four years ago after several vehicles were driven into the yard. This time, the driver went up the driveway and into the home, bypassing the poles.
