HOUSTON -- Residents of a foreclosed apartment complex thought they might have to find a new place to live, but the city of Houston stepped in to make sure they can keep their homes, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.
Hundreds of residents of the La Casita Apartments packed into Northline Elementary School on Thursday night looking for answers. They quickly heard part of what they needed.
"The good news is that on tomorrow morning, there will be an apartment manager that will come in and be able to correct all of the deficiencies that you've been going through over the last month or so," said Arva Howard with the city of Houston's legal department.
Howard said the city went to court asking a trustee to take over the apartments. A judge signed the order allowing necessary improvements to be made. The city said long-term contracts will be honored.
"You don't have to move out," Howard said. "The water will not be disconnected. The lights will not be disconnected. So, the only thing you will see is better management."
