The Federal Emergency Management Agency said it hopes to have the new prototype, temporary homes in use by the end of October or early November.However, several steps are needed first.For residents like Martha Cash, the wait for help is getting unbearable."I feel like FEMA let us down totally," she said. "It just seems like they're dragging their feet trying to help people in Shoreacres. They only put me in a hotel for a month. I couldn't find a room. I'm virtually homeless."The two-bedroom mobile homes can be built in about a day. There are also four-bedroom units to house larger families."This could be utilized on lots and put in front of your house," Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee said."It is a matter of the permit process and environmental regulations to help move it along," said Mike Gerber with the Texas Department of Housing.Shirley Haynes cannot move back home yet, so she checked out the mobile home."I think it's nice. I couldn't use anything better for right now," she said.Jackson Lee said funding for 125 of the units is already in Texas.
