Deputies: Man Posed As FEMA Agent To Steal From Couple
POSTED: Tuesday, October 14, 2008
HOUSTON -- A man has been accused of posing as a Federal Emergency Management Agency representative to prey on a couple after Hurricane Ike, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Harris County Precinct 6 deputy constables arrested Moses Yonko on Monday.
Investigators said he pretended to be a FEMA employee when he visited a couple at their home in southeast Houston.
A real FEMA employee had visited the couple earlier. Investigators said Yonko told them that he was there to do a follow-up visit.
Detectives said Yonko told the couple that they had violated some policies, threatened them and told them to give him money.
The couple came up with about $100 and gave it to Yonko, officials said.
The husband called for help and deputies arrested Yonko in the neighborhood.
Yonko was charged with class B theft and was wanted on an open felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance.
He could face federal charges, investigators said.
