Free Flu Shots Available For Senior Citizens

POSTED: Thursday, October 9, 2008

Houston-area senior citizens eligible for Medicare can get free flu shots, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

TexanPlus is offering a free flu shot to any 65-year-old resident or older who visits the company's flu clinics.

In the U.S., an estimated 25 to 50 million cases of the flu are reported each year, leading to 150,000 hospitalizations and 30,000 to 40,000 deaths annually.

Deaths of older adults account for more than 90 percent of deaths attributed to pneumonia and influenza.
