UPDATED: 8:32 am CDT October 2, 2008

CenterPoint Energy has restored power to more than 2 million of its customers who lost power when Hurricane Ike hit southeast Texas, but 4,341 are still in the dark more than two weeks later, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

About 2.15 million customers have had electricity restored as of 5 a.m. Thursday.

Of the 2.26 million CenterPoint Energy customers, 4,341, or about .2 percent, are still without power, according to the company.

CenterPoint released a map on Saturday that shows when power will be restored to certain ZIP codes still without electricity.

At the height of the outage, 2.15 million CenterPoint customers, or 90 percent, were without power.

CenterPoint's 5,000-square-mile electric service territory suffered widespread damage as a result of Ike's 100-mph winds, officials said.

About 9,000 linemen and tree trimmers from around the country have been helping CenterPoint's 3,000 workers restore power across the area.

Customers who don't have power while neighbors do were urged to call CenterPoint at 713-207-2222 to help the company identify pockets of outages.

"We realize this has been a very difficult and exhausting process for our customers who are still without power," said Kenny Mercado, senior vice president of Electric Operations. "We know that the job isn’t finished, and we won’t stop until everyone’s power is back on."

Anyone who spots a downed power line is urged to call 713-207-2222 or 800-332-7143.

    PUC Approves Emergency Order

The Public Utility Commission approved an emergency order to help electric customers affected by Hurricane Ike.

The order prohibits electric service disconnections, waives deposit requirements for new service and prohibits higher fees for non-business day, same-day service reconnections and priority move-in requests.

The order is effective until Oct. 10 for people living in 35 ZIP codes in southeast Texas.

    The ZIP codes are 77011, 77017, 77029, 77050, 77078, 77012, 77022, 77033, 77051, 77080, 77013, 77016, 77023, 77028, 77037, 77045, 77061, 77076, 77087, 77093, 77336, 77338, 77356, 77362, 77365, 77507, 77539, 77547, 77550, 77551, 77554, 77562, 77568, 77563 and 77565.
