Waste Management Begins Trash Pickup

POSTED: Monday, September 15, 2008

Waste Management will be picking up trash in areas that it can get to beginning on Monday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

The company has brought in workers from around the country to help in the collection because many of the local employees were forced to evacuate.

Company officials said they would not be collecting trash in southeast Houston and Beaumont because the areas were too damaged to be able to navigate.

Downed power lines and debris will also limit the areas where trash will be collected.

Hospitals and other priority customers will be served first.

Several landfills will also be open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.:

  • Atascocita
  • Addicks Fairbanks
  • Baytown
  • Cougar
  • Coastal Plains
  • Conroe 7 (opens Tuesday)
  • Greenshadows
  • Hawthorne Park
  • Newton County
  • Security

The company asked that residents be sure to separate household garbage from storm debris. Storm debris, including refrigerators, household appliances, bags of clothing, tree limbs, carpet, carpet padding and wood fencing should be placed in separate piles.
