MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Two children were approached by strangers in separate incidents in Montgomery County last week, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.
Investigators with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit said the possible attempted kidnappings happened on two consecutive days.
The first incident happened on Thursday, detectives said. Deputies said two people in a red 1990 Toyota Four Runner approached 7-year-old Tag Thomason as he walked home from the bus stop in his neighborhood in Willis, Texas.
The child's mother, who was watching her son walk home, said the vehicle stopped by her son and a man and woman got out to talk to him. Tag said the strangers asked him what his name is, where he lived and if he wanted a ride home.
"I thought it was weird how they came up to me," Tag said. "I didn't say anything because my mom told me not to talk to strangers."
Tag's mother said she quickly realized something was not right and started running toward her son.
"I was telling the strangers to go away because that was my son," Sandra Thompson said. "Then I yelled at Tag and told him to run home."
The mother said she watched the strangers get back in their vehicle and slowly drive away.
The strangers were described as Hispanic and in their 30s with average builds.
The second incident happened Friday in the Walden Subdivision in Montgomery County, officials said.
Deputies said three Hispanic men in a white 1996 Dodge van with ladders on top closely followed a 13-year-old girl who was riding her bicycle. The girl told detectives that she felt threatened by the men because they kept turning around and never said anything to her.
The men in that case were later found, interviewed and photographed.
The men were released after numerous citations were issued for vehicle infractions.
Deputies said they do not believe that the two incidents were related.
