Driver Arrested In TxDOT Worker's Death

POSTED: Tuesday, September 2, 2008
UPDATED: 12:37 pm CDT September 2, 2008

A driver has been arrested and charged in the fatal hit-and-run of a Texas Department of Transportation worker, police told KPRC Local 2 Tuesday.

Houston police said Ray Wilson, 71, ran over 42-year-old David Hall in the 100 block of North Travis at about 9:20 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators said Wilson drove around a TxDOT truck that was blocking a left lane. Hall was standing in the lane to help a cleanup crew back out of the high-occupancy vehicle lane entrance.

Wilson drove about a quarter-mile after hitting Hall before an off-duty police officer who witnesses the incident stopped him, police said.

Wilson was charged with failure to stop and render aid and intoxication manslaughter. He is being held in the Harris County Jail with bond set at $40,000.
