HOUSTON -- Someone broke into a car, stole a gas company credit card and got help to rack up a $32,000 bill, officials told KPRC Local 2 Friday.
Harris County sheriff's deputies said a car burglary was reported in the 500 block of Rankin Road on July 30. Investigators determined that the burglary had happened several days before it was reported.
Detectives said a Shell gas station credit card was stolen and then used to make diesel fuel purchases at stations across Houston.
The thieves spent more than $32,000, investigators said.
One of the thieves was caught on surveillance video. He is black, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 150 to 170 pounds with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a bluish-gray T-shirt with a patch on the left chest and light-colored pants.
Deputies said several other people also used the credit card.
A $5,000 reward was offered for information that leads to the identification, arrest and charging of any persons involved in the theft. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
