HOUSTON -- Being tied up did not stop a northwest Harris County storeowner from fighting back and killing a robbery suspect, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.
Harris County sheriff's investigators said a gunman entered Kenneth's PC cell phone store in the 12000 block of Veterans Memorial shortly after 1:30 p.m. and tied up the owner in the back.
"The suspect was robbing the store when the owner was able to free himself, retrieve his own handgun and a gunfight ensued, and the suspect was killed at the scene," said Sgt. Ben Beall with the Harris County Sheriff's Department.
At least 10 rounds were fired, shattering the store's windows.
Two of the bullets hit the back of a woman's van while she was in the drive-through window of Crawfish and Wings Cajun Kitchen.
The woman's daughter said she was OK.
"She was actually ducked up under the seat and flagging the police down at the same time with her hands, telling them, 'They're over here shooting. They're over here shooting.' Just very shaken up, but she's not injured. She's not hurt. She's doing very well at this moment," Shauna Coleman said.
No customers were inside the store at the time of the shooting.
No charges are expected to be filed against the owner, who was not injured.
The storeowner had recently installed a surveillance system, but it had not yet been activated.
Investigators said the robber is suspected in several other armed robberies in the area.
