HOUSTON -- A woman was shot when a man tried to steal her purse in front of her northeast Harris County home, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Harris County sheriff's deputies said a man approached the woman in her driveway in the 15600 block of Liberty Pine Lane shortly before noon on Tuesday in the Liberty Lakes subdivision.
"He forcibly attempted to take her purse from her. She fought back. She didn't want to give her purse up. This upset the suspect and he fired three rounds at her, striking her twice," said Sgt. Noel Araguz with the Harris County Sheriff's Department.
The 56-year-old woman was shot twice in her right side, investigators said. She was hospitalized in stable condition.
The victim said she had just withdrawn cash from a nearby bank on Woodforest at Uvalde. She said she believes someone followed her home.
Detectives said the shooter got away. He was only described as wearing a dark blue bandana, dark clothing and driving a dark blue two-door sedan with temporary license plates.
"When you get approached with a gun, obviously give up the purse. The money you have in that purse is not going to be worth getting shot for," Araguz said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
