UPDATED: 11:58 am CDT August 18, 2008

A Cleveland High School teacher was arrested and charged with prostitution, Cleveland school board superintendent Kerry Cowart confirmed with KPRC Local 2.

Cowart said Laurie Ann Lewis was arrested on Tuesday by Houston police.

He said Lewis was also placed on paid administrative leave pending resolution of the matter.

The school board is expected to decide on her teaching status with the district on Aug. 25.

Lewis has worked for the district since August 2006 as a theater teacher and student council sponsor.

She was released from the Harris County Jail on $500 bond.

Lewis is due back in Harris County Criminal Court on Aug. 20 for arraignment.
