WEBSTER -- Webster police said a 3-year-old boy died Wednesday after being left in a car by a relative while she was at work.
Capt. Thomas Claunch said the relative forgot to drop the child off at day care before driving to work.
The child was left unattended in the car for about 10 hours, police said.
When the relative returned at about 5:45 p.m., she found the boy strapped in his car seat, Claunch said. The relative thought the tot had been at day care, according to police.
When the family member realized the child was in the car, she called 911 to report that the toddler was unconscious.
Webster police and emergency responders were called to the scene and found the child dead inside the parked car. Medics pronounced the death on the scene.
The child's body will be taken to the Harris County Morgue for autopsy and identification.
Police are trying to reach the mother to notify her of the death.
The case remains under investigation.
