2 Dolphins Rescued After Stranded By Edouard

POSTED: Wednesday, August 6, 2008
UPDATED: 2:46 pm CDT August 6, 2008

Two dolphins that were rescued after Tropical Storm Edouard will be released back into the ocean, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.

The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network found two adult Bottlenose dolphins stranded on Crystal Beach within 50 yards of each other after someone called to report them at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Rescuers took the dolphins back to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's property in Galveston where they were placed in a rehabilitation tank.

TMMSN officials said they believe the two dolphins were brought in by the storm and became stranded on the beach.

They were in good condition and able to swim on their own, so they will be released back into the water Wednesday evening.
