Police: Teen squatter shot in head at southeast Houston duplex

HOUSTON – A 17-year-old boy was hospitalized Sunday after being shot in the head at a duplex in southeast Houston.

The shooting was reported about 11 p.m. near the corner of Amos and Raymond streets.

Homicide investigators said Derick Brown, along with a few others, broke into the duplex a couple of weeks ago and have been squatting ever since.

Investigators said they have brought in four witnesses for questioning. They said those witnesses claimed Brown was sitting in the kitchen by himself when they heard a gun fire.

Homicide investigators were not immediately able to locate the owner of the duplex, which is delaying their efforts to obtain a search warrant to enter the home.

Investigators said witnesses reported that the gun is still inside the duplex.

Anyone with additional information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
