17-year-old accused of shooting 16-year-old girlfriend in the neck

HOUSTON – Sirens and flashing lights filled a normally quiet neighborhood Tuesday night after a 16-year-old girl was shot in the neck.

The shooting happened on the second floor of a home on Heatherton Hill Lane and Regal Oaks Bend Lane.

According to Houston police, the girl was in her bedroom with her 17-year-old boyfriend, Eric Broussard, and the two got into an argument. At some point, Broussard pulled out a gun and shot his girlfriend, police say.

Her family members were also home at the time.

"Another grandson of mines was here upstairs, so he heard it, but downstairs, we didn't hear it," her grandmother, Cheryl Sirls, said.

After the shooting, police say Broussard left and went home, but his parent returned him.

"He was not here when the police arrived. Apparently he went home and his father brought him back to the scene and turned him over," said Lt. Larry Crowson, Houston Police Department.

Investigators immediately placed Broussard in the back of an HPD patrol car.

Broussard was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The girl is expected to survive.

"Well, she's doing OK as far as I know. I'm on my way to the hospital now," Sirls said.

The victim's grandmother admitted the young couple has gotten into arguments in the past.

"They got into arguments occasionally, just teenage stuff," she said.

One woman at Broussard's home who didn't want to be identified described him as a "good boy."
