Husband Charged In Wife's Death

POSTED: Thursday, July 24, 2008

A man has been charged in connection with his wife's shooting death, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

Fort Bend County sheriff's deputies said 37-year-old Jackie Cantu was fatally shot in her home in the 26300 block of Eden Point Court on April 24.

Investigators said Cantu's husband, Michael, told them that he and his wife got into an argument while looking at family photos. Deputies said he told him that his wife had gone into the master bathroom and shot herself in the forehead with his gun.

Michael Cantu told investigators that he was in the kitchen when his wife was shot.

The Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office rule Jackie Cantu's death as a homicide.

Deputies said their investigation revealed that Michael Cantu altered the crime scene and made multiple misleading statements.

Michael Cantu turned himself in on Tuesday after he was indicted on a homicide charge on Monday. He was released after posting $75,000 bond and agreeing to wear an electronic ankle monitor.
