HOUSTON -- A family was reunited Friday after two children who were in a pickup truck when it was stolen at a southwest Houston gas station were found safe, police told KPRC Local 2
Houston police said a man jumped in a woman's Ford F-150 as she put air in its tires at a gas station on West Airport Boulevard at Fondren Road at about 7 a.m.
Maria Calderon said she left the engine running, but never imagined she would be attacked.
"The guy, he pushed me and he take the truck with my two babies," Calderon said.
Brothers Kevin and Angel Mata, ages 3 and 2, were in the back seat of the pickup truck, police said.
Police scoured the area from the air and by ground to find any sign of the missing siblings.
A man walking a dog found the brothers outside a church on Dunlap Street, less than two miles away from where they were kidnapped, police said.
Paramedics checked out the boys, who were OK.
"They need to find those guys," Calderon said. "I'm scared."
Calderon's pickup truck was not found. It is black with chrome rims and has the names Kevin, Maria, Mary, Daniel and Angel in white lettering on the back windshield. It has Texas license plate No. 89C RK6.
Police said they do not have a good description of the carjacker. Calderon said she was not sure if he had a weapon.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
