POSTED: Wednesday, July 2, 2008
HOUSTON -- A man is wanted in connection with a series of bank robberies in the Houston area this year, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.
The FBI has nicknamed the man the "red-handed bandit" because he has worn red gloves during several of the robberies.
The man's most recent target was the Bank of Texas branch in the 12200 block of Westheimer Road at about 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Investigators said the man walked up to the counter, handed the teller a purple or pink bag and demanded cash. The teller complied with the demand and the robber walked out of the bank, detectives said.
The "red-handed bandit" is black, 26 to 35 years old, 6 feet to 6 feet 5 inches tall, 210 to 240 pounds with a muscular or athletic build.
During the latest robbery, the man wore a dark-colored T-shirt, jacket and pants along with sneakers, a Texas Tech baseball cap, light-colored gloves and a black back support belt.
Detectives said the same man is suspected to be responsible for the following robberies:
Jan. 16: Washington Mutual, 14565 Memorial Drive Jan. 26: IBC Bank, 1545 Eldridge Pkwy. Feb. 15: Washington Mutual, 13070 Bellaire Blvd. (attempted) March 20: IBC Bank inside Kroger, 10570 Highway 6 in Sugar Land April 30: Comerica Bank, 1503 Eldridge Pkwy.
Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 713-693-5000 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
