Chemical Vapors Pour Out Of Building

POSTED: Tuesday, June 17, 2008

A west Houston parking lot was filled with chemical vapors that poured out of a building early Tuesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston firefighters said the chemical started to leak out of NuCo2, housed in a building on North Post Oak Road near West 12th Street at about 7 a.m.

Executive Assistant Chief Rich Flanagan said the chemical appeared to be carbon dioxide.

"It has a tremendous amount of cloud vapor," he said. "You don't want to get it on your body," he said. "It freezes. It's used in refrigerants and other products like that."

No evacuations were ordered and no injuries were reported.

Crews controlled the leak and set up fans to air out the building.

The cause of the leak is under investigation.
