POSTED: Wednesday, June 11, 2008
UPDATED: 5:50 pm CDT June 11, 2008

Copper thieves are no longer just after air-conditioning units. They are also targeting phone lines, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.

Officials said a northwest Houston neighborhood has been hit hard.

Thousands of AT&T customers lost phone service after copper thieves cut the telephone line in the middle of the night.

The line in Acres Homes has been stolen five times over the past year.

AT&T is working with the Houston Police Department and offering a $3,000 reward.

Anyone with information is asked to call 800-807-4205.
