Musicians Sue Emilio's Company For Personal Injury

POSTED: Tuesday, June 3, 2008

Two band members have filed a lawsuit in connection with a crash that almost took the life Tejano star Emilio Navaira III, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.

Musicians Daniel Sandoval and Pedro Ramirez are suing his company, Emilio Inc., for personal injury. Navaira, 45, was not personally named in the lawsuit.

Sandoval and Ramirez were hurt when Navaira, simply know as Emilio to his fans, crashed their tour bus into a set of barrels on the West Loop at the Southwest Freeway on March 23.

Emilio was thrown through the windshield and critically injured. Doctors performed two brain surgeries and repaired a potentially fatal aneurysm on his right lung.

Bellaire police said Emilio had a blood-alcohol level of .19, more than twice Texas' legal limit of .08. He has not been charged with any crime in connection with the crash.

Emilio has released more than a dozen albums with his band. He won a Grammy for best Tejano album in 2003 with "Acuerdate."
