LEAGUE CITY, Texas -- A family had a big scare when a TV set fell on top of a baby on Memorial Day, KPRC Local 2 reported.
League City police said a 9-month-old baby boy somehow pulled down a television at a home on Ewell Drive at about 4:45 p.m.
The family told officers the baby was in a back room with his sibling playing video games.
The baby was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. He is expected to recover.
Neighbors Diane and Tom Box said they have a 3-year-old grandson who has a television in his room, and the thought of danger is always in the back of their head.
"Little ones are surprisingly strong; our grandson is very much so," Diane Box said. "All you can do is make sure you are watching them."
"What happened to that family is horrible," Tom Box said. "Thank God the little boy is alive. If our grandson is in a room alone and he's not making any noise, then we check on him."
Studies from the Unites States Consumer Product Safety Commission estimated that at least 3,000 children under the age of five were treated at hospitals for accidents involving TV sets in 2005.
The study also reported that 36 children's deaths were caused by televisions tipping over between 2000 and 2005.
