16-year-old shot; hospitalized in critical condition

Police are searching for the gunman

HOUSTON – A Houston-area teenager was shot outside a southwest Houston apartment complex.

Houston police said the 16-year-old was shot at the Little Neel Apartment Complex near West Sam Houston Parkway and Beechnut Street in southwest Houston shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday, police said.

Police said several cartridge casings were found at the scene.

According to investigators, the teen was taken by a friend to Memorial Hermann Hospital before being transported to Texas Children's Hospital. He is listed in critical condition.

"Some residents reported that gunshots were fired in the area here," said Sgt. Mark Holbrook. "He may have gotten into a confrontation with some other suspects in a white car. That's all we know and they fled the scene."

Police said the teen did not live at the apartment complex where he was shot.

Investigators are searching for any clues leading to the gunman's arrest.
