PASADENA, Texas -- A chemical release at a Pasadena plant led to an evacuation Thursday evening, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Officials said
silicon tetrafluoride was released for about five minutes shortly before 5 p.m. at a building adjacent to the MEMC Electronics Materials plant.
Authorities said the release did not cause a danger to the public and that a shelter-in-place order was not issued.
Silicon tetrafluoride is a colorless gas with a very pungent odor similar to that of hydrogen chloride, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
It was previously reported that the release affected workers at the Albermarle Corp.; however, Albermarle officials said none of their employees was affected.
