HOUSTON -- The former owner of two Houston-area chemical dependency treatment clinics was sentenced to jail time and ordered to pay back hundreds of thousands of dollars he stole from taxpayers, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.
Emeke Agboh has been convicted on a charge of theft by a governmental contractor.
The Texas Attorney General's Office said Agboh stole $200,000 from Medicaid through false billing schemes at Genesis Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center and Shiloh Mental Health Services.
Agboh, 39, was ordered to repay all of the money and spend five years in prison.
"The Medicaid program was billed for services the defendant never rendered," Attorney General Greg Abbott said. "The Office of the Attorney General will continue investigating waste, fraud and abuse in the Medicaid system."
Texas spent more than $17 billion in 2006 to fund its portion of the Medicaid program.
