Police: Robbers Lure Men Through Chat Line

BAYTOWN, Texas -- Robbers are using a popular chat line to lure men, police told KPRC Local 2 Wednesday.Baytown police said at least two men have been assaulted and robbed when they went to meet women they talked to on the line.Investigators said they got a call about a shooting at the Logan Point Apartments in the 3700 block of Garth Road on Monday. A 45-year-old man told police he had been robbed when he went to meet a woman he talked to on the chat line.The man told detectives that three men confronted him when he followed two women he met in the parking lot. Officials said the men assaulted and robbed the man and someone fired one shot. The man suffered a head injury but did not require medical attention.The men and women left in the man's 2008 Volvo, police said. It was found at the Baker Down Apartments on West Baker Road about 20 minutes later.Police said another man was attacked in a similar situation the day before.A 24-year-old man told police he met two women in the parking lot of the Creekside Apartments on Decker Drive on Sunday, after talking to a woman on a chat line.The man said three men attacked him as he followed the women to their apartment. He drove himself to San Jacinto Hospital after he was assaulted, police said.Investigators said two 17-year-olds reported being robbed at the Baker Down Apartments on March 23. They told police that they went there to meet two women, but were robbed at gunpoint. One of the teens said six men robbed him and the other said four men robbed him.The teens told police the men stole their tan-colored 2004 Mercury Marquis, which has not been found. Neither teen was hurt.Police have not released detailed descriptions of the men and women.Anyone with information was asked to call Baytown police at 281-420-5862 or Baytown Crime Stoppers at 281-427-TIPS.
