Authorities Say 14 Were Staying At Hotel

UPDATED: 1:57 pm CDT April 1, 2008

Fire officials in Lockport said at least one person died after a five-alarm fire tore through a hotel in the Chicago suburb of Lockport.

Officials said dozens of firefighters battled the blaze at three-story Towpath Inn.

Officials with the Lockport Township Fire Protection District said the blaze broke out at the hotel just before 4 a.m. Tuesday, WMAQ-TV in Chicago reported.

It was brought under control a few hours later.

Officials didn't identify the victim, or provide details of any other injuries. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Authorities said as many as 14 people were staying at the hotel, and the local fire chief said all but two have been accounted for.

Metra spokesman Tom Miller said the Lockport Township Fire Protection District requested that Metra commuter rail service not run trains on the Heritage Corridor line because of the fire near Metra's Lockport station.

As a result, all inbound service was suspended.

It was not known how long the service will be suspended, the television station reported.

Lockport is about 25 miles southwest of Chicago.
