HOUSTON -- It is what some consider 12 acres of Heaven, nestled between Houston's most noteable downtown landmarks.
In front of the George R. Brown Convention Center is Houston's newest park, Discovery Green.
The park does not officially open until April 13, but Saturday night offered a sneak preview with some sweet sounds.
The High School for Performing and Visual Arts honored a former teacher with a series of jazz greats, including Al Jarreau and 17 former graduates of the school, some of whom are now world-class professional musicians.
But the real man of the hour was Dr. Robert Morgan.
"Doc" taught for more than two decades at the school. Morgan told KPRC-TV he was honored by Saturday night's event and he considered it his "Oscar Moment."
"I'm in a daze and I will be for awhile," Morgan said.
KPRC Local 2's Dominique Sachse emceed the event.
Station General Manager Larry Blackerby said KPRC is a proud media sponsor of Discovery Green and Houstonians can look forward to many more fine nights at Houston's newest park.
"When you sit on this lawn and look back at the city, it's just going to be the signature view of Houston," Blackerby said.
